Answer to case 1: Nocardia

 Pic1: Staining: Modified Z-N Staining using 1% sulfuric acid decolorizer.

Green arrow: Pink filamentous bacteria. Red arrow: Pus cells.

Pic 2: Gram staining.

White arrow: Pus cells. Yellow arrow: gram positive filamentous bacteria.


Actinomyces and Nocardia both are gram positive filamentous bacteria but Nocardia is weak acid fast.
