A 3 year old child was brought to the emergency dept. with high grade fever, pain in the throat and difficulty in swallowing. On examination there was massive tonsillar swelling and a leathery greyish white membranous coat present on the fauces. A throat swab was sent for micrbiological evaluation.

Corynebacterium diphtheriae is gram positive, non capsulated, non sporing & non motile bacillus.
It shows dark blue granules at the end of green bacilli after Albert staining.
